All things are difficult before they become easy. Somehow, as adults we expect perfection and ease when engaging with new things (activities, ways of being, relationships). Today, I am remembering that the first time I tried to walk, I fell. And that there was a time that I didn't know the difference between an airplane and a butterfly. I didn't feel shame for this and I don't now for the mistakes I make either. I am still learning. And that's ok. Therapy can be a place to work through the shame/guilt/hard emotions that surface around making mistakes, failures, or patterned behavior that just isn't working anymore. Here's to making mistakes without all the baggage! -Jessi |
